goingBananas on "Help transfering from Godaddy to A Small Orange"

Hello,
well I got in over my head when, a year ago, I excitedly made a shiny new blog on wordpress.org (figured I wanted the neat .org version with the nifty plugins and customizable options!) I found a coupon code to get a year of hosting with godaddy for $12.xx I vowed to post something new every week. I pretty much just bake things and craft and garden etc.
A year later I think I have 4 posts.... but just dont want to give up on my little dream of learning and UNDERSTANDING this wordpress thing. I would love to find some classes to truly understand everything going on behind the scenes, (or should I say screens?) It really interests me! But where I am now, I have a very hard time wrapping my head around terminology and understanding most of it. Ok sorry for this long ramble.
The point is I want to leave godaddy. I dont want to pay the renewal price of $80+ for hosting when I dont really use it. I should just go do the free thing at wordpress.com but I dont want to. I have found that A Small Orange has the cheapest prices and figured I would just go with them. I started a chat and asked if the process of transfering would be easy, It seems that on godaddy I dont have cPanel so they wont be able to transfer it and more will have to happen on MY end and that makes me a little nervous.
SO MY QUESTION, Does anyone think that if I used the duplicator plugin that that might make it easier for me? Would I do this, save the downloads then head over to Asmallorange and begin the sign up process? I mean, when it comes down to it, if I lose things in the process it wont be the end of the world. I just want to know if I am on the right path. Like usual i waited until the very last minute as my term expires with godaddy in a week. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!!
